Composition
In this formula, Dang Shen and Bai Zhu strengthen the spleen and transform dampness. Mai Ya and Shan Zha disperse food and remove stagnation. In addition, He Ye raises purity and strengthens the spleen, not only helping to eliminate stagnant food but also helping to strengthen the spleen and tonify qi. He Ye also disperses phlegm and dampness. Tu Bie Chong is included in this formula because many overweight individuals also tend to have blood stasis. Thus, dampness and phlegm obstruct the movement and free flow of blood, as well as the qi that moves the blood. Tu Bei Chong activates the blood and dispels stasis. He Shou Wu is included in the formula because it nourishes the liver and kidneys. By nourishing the kidney essence, it promotes the interdependence between innate qi and acquired qi. Wu Long Cha (Oolong tea) was included in this formula because it strengthens the spleen, transforms phlegm, eliminates stagnation, and disinhibits dampness (promotes urination).
